so, if a 14 hour flight from san fran to hong kong wasn't long enough, there was a typhoon in hong kong when i was supposed to leave, so our flight got delayed from 1:12 pm on thursday to 9 am friday. of course, since it was a weather delay the airline did nothing, but my parents put jess and i up for the night. in true tricia style, we decided to take advantage of the fabulous marriott beds instead of san francisco. we slept for a good 4 or 5 hours during the day, and then stayed up all night talking. we went to bed around 3 and set our alarms for 6 am so that we could leave our hotel for the airport by 7. around 8:15 am, jess woke up. we busted it to the airport and made it to the gate at right about 9:00. then they tacked on an hour because the runways were full when we got in. then we had to load all of our stuff (50 people x moving to china baggage) on a bus, which didn't fit on one charter bus, imagine that. long story short there was another bus brought in, we had to pay 10 bucks, go through customs again (hong kong and china) so we had to lug our stuff on and off a bus twice. then we had a 2 hour bus ride.
the city we're in is really cute though, and i think i'm really going to like this area of china. right now we're walking distance from the beach and shenzhen is on the water as well. i'm also really excited about hong kong. i won't have internet aside from an internet cafe for a week or so, but i'll update this again then with better info. hope all is well at home!

ugh I feel you on stupid airlines. my flight from moscow to london was delayed b/c the airplane was hit by lightning on its way to moscow. we were supposed to land in London at 10:30PM london time but ended up getting there around 2AM london time.
i'm glad you guys got there (eventually). i hope everything is going well. i miss you!
i had to start a blog for social psych. don't read it or i'll kick your ass.
anyway, i'm glad to finally hear about the city! I feel like we've been caught up in our fb message gossiping and not China. So go out and do Chinese things and take pics and post them!!
p.s. more absurd things have happened. this weekend looks promising. i miss you like nothing else.
