out of the loop

dude, i am so fucking out of the loop. apparently there was a hurricane? i didn't have internet for like, one day, and i miss a fucking hurricane that really fucked up my city? it was also really weird not being able to talk to my parents and find out more details. like if i had a house or not or if my aunt would still be able to have surgery on thursday. it was very bizarre. 

also, i watched the tina fey/amy poehler skit about sarah palin and i realized i have no clue what's going on in this election. i've been doing some research on her and i'm shocked that i've missed exactly how ridiculous she is. the pit bull lipstick joke? is that real? banned books? dinosaurs 4,000 years ago? not knowing what the bush doctrine is? is she serious? maybe y'all should start throwing some news items into your e-mails so i don't come back to america and know absolutely nothing about anything that's going on...

in china news, yesterday was mid autumn festival and we went out the beach again. it was really chill and fun. there were hundreds and hundreds of people there, it was kinda mind blowing how many people were just like sleeping on the beach, or out in the water in the pitch black. apparently it's not ok to be alone during the holiday, so these chinese people kept making us come over and talk to them. i didn't think a group of 8 was particularly "alone" but i went with it. i got pretty fucking wasted because some chinese guy who opened beer bottles with his teeth kept cheersing me and handing me another beer. and also because i had like 4 bottles of beer before that (and the bottles here are about 24 oz). sadly instead of doing anything funny, i think i mostly got annoying to the people who don't know me as well. and then had like 20 different conversations with linda and kate about how glad we are that we're living together. kate was rolling around in the sand and went in the ocean in her jeans. i tried to play some chinese drinking game with ben (whose birthday we were celebrating) and he totally owned me. some random chinese guy gave me his qq (chinese aim is what i've gathered it is) even though i told him i don't have qq and i clearly don't speak enough chinese to communicate with him. i also took lots of pictures with random chinese people. 

my weekend was really fun, but it makes going back to school that much harder. i am in no way looking forward to teaching four classes tomorrow, or even planning the fucking lesson. i think this week will go by pretty fast though, because i'm not nervous about teaching anymore, and we have chinese class this week! it's weird to be so excited about that, but it means i get to see everyone that i wouldn't normally get to see. and maybe speak some chinese? i'm still not sure how i've managed to speak no chinese out here in yantian, but i'm doing it. probably because i told my school i speak very little chinese, and they took that to mean absolutely none. my current plan is now that classes are starting pretend like i'm "learning" chinese and have everyone at my school just think i'm a fucking genius. which i am.
